How the limits work
The monthly quota is counted per account, not per key, and resets on the 1st at midnight UTC. A separate short-window burst guard applies per key. Every response reports both live in the X-Quota-* and X-RateLimit-* headers, so you never have to guess — see rate limits.

Licensing
What counts as commercial use?
Anything where the data supports a product, service or business — an app you charge for, an ad-supported site, internal tooling at a company, or resale of the data itself. Pro carries that licence. Free and Premium are for personal projects, evaluation, research and open-source work that is not monetised.
Attribution
Free and Premium require visible attribution to EDMDb wherever the data appears, with a link back. Every resource includes a url field pointing at its page on edmdb.net precisely so this is easy to satisfy. Attribution is optional on Pro.
Where the data comes from
EDMDb aggregates and de-duplicates from licensed provider partnerships alongside its own editorial work. Some upstream sources carry redistribution terms of their own, so the commercial licence does not automatically extend to every field on every resource. If you are building something commercial on a specific slice of the catalogue, ask us first — we would rather answer than have you discover a restriction after launch.
Bulk and feeds
If you need the whole catalogue rather than queries against it, per-request pricing is the wrong shape and a nightly feed is cheaper for both sides. Get in touch.
Billing
API access is part of the EDMDb plan on your account, not a separate subscription — so if you already pay for Premium or Pro, you already have the matching limits. Plans are managed at edmdb.net/account/billing and can be changed or cancelled at any time.

What does the free tier include?
A free authenticated key with 10,000 requests a month, full read access to artists, events, festivals and venues over REST, and MCP access. Attribution to EDMDb is required wherever the data appears.
Do MCP and REST share a quota?
Yes. The monthly allowance is counted per account across both surfaces and across every key on the account — not per key, and not per surface.
When does the quota reset?
On the 1st of the month at midnight UTC. Every response reports what is left and when it resets in the X-Quota-* headers, so you never have to track it yourself.
Rate limits and quotasWhat happens when I hit the limit?
Requests return 429 with quota_exceeded until the reset, and Retry-After says how long that is. A separate short-window burst guard applies per key and returns 429 with rate_limit_exceeded — that one means back off for a moment rather than wait for the month.
